This sub-project is for design, development of construction contract documents and construction of tide gates within the Cape Henry Beach area to isolate Lynnhaven Colony and West Great Neck Rd. from tidal impacts.
Based on the November and December 2009 NorEaster's, staff attended several meetings with the Cape Story By-the-Sea, Cape Henry, and Lynnhaven Colony neighborhoods. The Tidal and Rainfall Flooding Evaluation report was presented at the Shore Drive Community Coalition on May 24, 2010 and finalized on 9/7/2010.
City staff met with the Lynnhaven Colony Civic League on November 17, 2012 to discuss the impacts from Hurricane Sandy and long-term measures being evaluated under CIP 2.117 and CIP 7.409. An interim Tidal Backflow Prevention Analysis was initiated in December 2012 and completed in June 2013. A summary of the interim analysis was presented to the Bayfront Advisory Committee on June 20, 2013 and to the Shore Drive Community Coalition on June 24, 2013. The analysis report and presentation may be viewed on the VBGOV Public Works Storm Water web page. Authorization to design and construct the proposed interim measures was issued on September 3, 2013. Five check valves were installed in the Lynnhaven Colony Tidally Adjacent area in December 2013 and January 2014.
